Pikuach is the only inspection service accredited by the Department for Education (DfE) to undertake inspections for religious education at Jewish schools in the UK, the statutory equivalent of OFSTED.

Pikuach plays a crucially important role in ensuring that we have the robust regulatory framework for Jewish education that our children deserve. Pikuach’s inspectors include some of our community’s most talented and experienced educationalists and we are truly blessed to have them.

Who we are

Part of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Pikuach was established in 1996 to meet the government requirement that schools have their denominational religious education provision inspected under Section 48 of the UK Education Acts 1992, 1996.

Our inspectors

Pikuach plays a crucially important role in ensuring that we have the robust regulatory framework for Jewish education that our children deserve. Pikuach’s inspectors include some of our community’s most talented and experienced educationalists and we are truly blessed to have them.

How we work

The Jewish schools that use Pikuach’s inspection service are visited every few years by inspectors who understand and appreciate their specific ethos. They produce public reports on their findings and will advise schools on how to achieve the highest possible standards in Jewish religious education.
